After lunch we hit the La Fortuna waterfall, under which you can swim. We had been warned that there were more than 350 steps leading down to it. I read on a web site today that there are actually 550, and when I counted, I got something like 475. The lower bit was hard to count, as it wasn't proper stairs and had a lot of jaggedly angled bits. Apparently the whole trail used to be like that but they are now turning it all into a big staircase.
Here is the start of our trek down:
And here are some shots of the waterfall:
Once you reached the bottom it was very wet, with mist and splashback from the waterfall, like steady rain. I somehow managed to hang my stuff on a rail and prop my umbrella over it so that it didn't get too drenched. The photos above were taken with my Canon, which I covered up, but I had also brought my underwater and waterproof Olympus. In all the years I have had it, I have never had this problem, but it fogged up! See below. Oh well!
These are from the rocks in front of the waterfall, which you can make out on the right.
This one is kind of arty!
I also had my Kodak waterproof mini video camera, which fared a bit better with the condensation:
Condensation clearing up a little though not much!
Luke likes to nag me...
Though it did take a long long time to climb back up all those stairs! And now I was wearing wet, squelchy water shoes filled with gravel. I kept reminding myself that Lisa Zeigal does this for fun, and she would probably be at the top in a few minutes. But I think the only thing that pulled me to the top was knowing where we were headed next...
There was a large (bigger than it looks in the photo; sort of half life size) nativity scene outside our destination. These are very common in Costa Rica; in fact that's their no. 1 Christmas decoration thing. I suddenly had an epiphany, that it was Epiphany! I don't think they do the deviled eggs thing though.
Baldi Hot Springs! Have a better look here at all the different pools. I visited most of them on my own and had left my camera in the bar with Candice.
But here is the back of a waterfall at one of the lower pools. (They are all situated on a steep hill; no more steps at least!)
Blind selfie taken with the Olympus waterproof:
If you leave a credit card at the bar they will give you a number on your wristband allowing you to order food and drinks from the swim-up bar. Luke and I got a couple of mojitos, and yes, his was a virgin version!
Yes, those are my glowing feet...
We had dinner back at the La Fortuna hotel, then found a local restaurant for coffee. Back in the room Luke found his new sloth had been cruising about on a flamingo.
