Day Six: Aboard the Norma Jean on the Harukai Coast

Today we were all at sea, morning, lunchtime and afternoon, aboard a boat called the Norma Jean. The skipper, Piers Barney, was quite a character; born on and grew up on one of the islands in the gulf, His beloved dog, Skip, always came aboard for the ride.

Skip loves to bark at dolphins. He would get so excited it's a wonder he didn't fall in the water. In the late afternoon he was a bit cold and wet, so took turns snuggling on people's laps.

Giant petrels

I believe this is the Northern Royal Albatross, but I shall have to double-check. I know we also had some Wandering Albatrosses wander in...

Feeding frenzy!

And finally, on the way back, some lovin spoonbills:

  1. Wow, lovely pics. I saw a feeding frenzy once off the Azores, nature at its red in tooth and clawiest, as Colbert might say...
