Day Eleven: Wellington and crossing over to the South Island

We spent the morning driving south to Wellington, where we had lunch and then a couple of hours to explore the museum.

As usual, I got lost in the cultural history section, though it makes me feel kind of old to see such familiar looking objects in a museum!

I mean, it seems like only yesterday I was using that same fax machine in the Berkoffice...

I covet that fondue set!!!

Wonderful wallpaper and string art!!

This wallpaper is even better, and look! ABBA trading cards!

A Giant Moa! How fab it would have been to see one of them walking around, but alas, they were clobbered to extinction. Still, New Zealanders seem to feel bad about this...

Bambi Conway, look away now! These two exhibits kind of freaked me out, too, as well as a wildlife doc I watched that showed Giant Carnivorous Snails. Luckily I did not see any in the wild, in New Zealand anyway!

Snailophobes can come back now; we're on the ferry to the South Island!

And then the sun went down and we reached Picton, where we spent the night.
