This was the view from my room by the way...
A bit later and a bit closer...
We then drove up to and walked around some of the mountain paths at Whakapapa Skifield.
We then had a long drive ahead of us, through a lot of small towns. There were a lot of things along the way I wished I could photograph; almost every town had some sort of mascot and had a huge statue of such mascot (sheep dogs, giant pigs, rutabagas...) in the centre or the edge of town. But even when I had my camera at the ready, I was nearly always too late. Same with a lot of great signage. Here are some examples of my near misses... Or rather, misses.
That was just past a giant carrot or something.
Even if the object had not passed by, it would not have been in focus anyhow!
I caught the edge of something here, but can't for the life of me remember what it was!
Here I caught part of the Oh me, Oh my coffee palace, or whatever it was!
And there's the end of it!
Kiwis like their puns...
And their buns... This is where we stopped for lunch. I don't recall my sandwich being too exciting, but my cream horn was divine! (Mango, if you're wondering...) (And I wish I had a statue of a giant cream horn for my back yard...)
