Welcome to Adelaide! It's still only early November but a crazed-looking Santa stands atop the market. My Air BNB was right across the street, but I never got to go inside the market as I was out all day Saturday and it isn't open on Sundays.
The drive was scenic - very lush and green - but I didn't really have any opportunities to take photos or videos. In fact this is one of the only shots I took; one of the wineries had a fake stork that reminded me of the plastic version I had rescued in the late 70s and which was stolen from my parents' house two years ago. Yes, nothing whatsoever to do with Australia, or wine...
We stopped at three wineries and one gourmet food store. It was kind of in a weird order. At the first place, which we hit before 10 am, they first gave us coffee and cake, and then huge, generous pours of six different wines. There were free food samples but no wine at the food store; I sort of wandered round in a semi-drunken haze. The third winery served us lunch along with tiny samples of wine which they then tried to flog to us, and the final winery, which had the best stuff, also wasn't too forthcoming with the samples.
My Air BNB was next to a theatre at which a stage version of Fawlty Towers was playing. I thought this would be fun to see, but the cheapest ticket was about $80! So I decided to go hang round the box office to see if anyone was selling or giving away a spare. No luck; it did not help that it was now pouring down! So that was my exciting Saturday night in Adelaide...
I got up early on Sunday and walked all over the city; stopped and had a nice brunch. Here are some shots of Adelaide on a sunny day:
I then went in the city museum... If you like masks, Aboriginal art, mummies, Mid-century Modern furniture and expressionism (as I do), it ticks all the boxes!
I then met up with a friend of a friend who as visiting her parents in Adelaide. She took me to see a view of the city; as you can see it had grown a bit cloudy, but also my camera fogged up because it was COLD! Bitterly cold! I was happy to get back in the car and go for a warming drink. This is probably why I didn't manage to get any photos of my driver, Kate!
It was windy too!
After going for one drink with Kate, I tried to have an early night as I had a very early flight to Queensland tomorrow...
